I’m going to share some of my favourite recipes for new Mums – these are great for gifts in the early weeks, but I have a list of guidelines which I try to follow:

  • Recipes should be full of nutrients – I particularly found it hard to eat enough veg the first month or two
  • Food should be easy to reheat
  • Food should be suitable for freezer, ideally in current packaging
  • Ideally deliver in containers you don’t need back – good quality zip lock bags are great for soup or metal containers that can be just popped in the oven can be purchased at supermarkets
  • Clearly mark packages with contents and instructions for heating, suitability for freezing
  • It’s good to have a selection of recipes which are dairy free, gluten free etc
  • Drop the food and go unless they ask for assistance, the first two weeks especially is such an important time for family bonding
